Where do I get my domain name from?
There are hundreds and even thousands of domain registrars that are just itching to sell you a domain name. Most will entice you with specials and very low initial pricing. That is a good thing, of course.
But don't make your selection based solely on the deal you get today. Talk to friends, other nonprofit organizations and local businesses that have a web presence. Find out what their experiences have been. You can get a good start by searching the web for domain registrars.
In case you are wondering, we use GoDaddy.

Do I need more than one domain?
There are several reasons to have multiple domain names. One is to host multiple web sites. Another is to protect the good name of your organization.
A domain name is of critical importance to a nonprofit organization. It is part of the organization's reputation and, in some cases, is the larger part. In this age of extremely cheap domain names, it may be a wise idea to spend a little extra money to protect your name.
It is a favorite ploy of some less than reputable web sites, such as pornographers, to play off of more reputable organizations like nonprofits, universities and even churches by aquiring domain names that are similar to the more reputable organization's domain name. They rely on human nature, to make mistakes, to drive traffic intended for you to their site. The user may not realize that they mistyped the web address. The result is damage to your reputation.
You can use domain aliases to protect your name. When you purchase your domain name you can buy additional, sound-alike names as well. For instance, this web site is FreeNPHosting.org. We also purchased FreeNPHosting.net, FreeNPHosting.biz, FreeNPHosting.info, FreeNPHosting.us, FreeNPHosting.com and FreeNPHosting.name. You can try them out if you like. The latter six were added as domain aliases and point the user to our primary site. This allows me to maintain one web site for all seven domains.
You may also want to consider other likely typing errors besides a different extension. If your domain is nonprofit.org, you may wish to also get non-profit.org and its variations.
You can add as many aliases as you wish.

How do I manage my account?
Your control panel, or management console, is the H-SPHERE Control Panel and is your account management tool. It allows you to add your domain name(s), set up email addresses, upload web pages, or even create your site.
For a complete description on the control panel and what you can do with it, you can access the online manual at http://www.freenphosting.org/cpmanual.html.

How do I get listed with search engines?
There are a lot of ways to get listed with search engines. There are commercial services available that specialize in getting you listed. If your IT budget doesn't include extra funds for internet services, there are web sites with free tips to help you. Also, most search engines publish this information at their sites. This is not always the best way since there are literally hundreds of search engines.
So let's start with the top 2 search engines to see what they have to say:
Google - Webmaster Central, Submit your site
Yahoo - Submit your site
You can also get free advice and tips from thousands of sites on the web. Rather than trying to list them here, let's use the top two search engines to list them:
Google Yahoo
Rest assured, though, even if you do nothing, you will get listed.

Do you offer a guarantee?
We understand that while we have eliminated the cost of hosting your site there may still be some valid concerns about the continuity of hosting. Free Nonprofit Web Hosting has been providing free web hosting to nonprofit organizations for more than four years. We have no plans of discontinuing this service, but here is the guarantee we offer you. It is twofold:
1. We guarantee that we will provide your organization with a minimum of three months notice prior to discontinuing our hosting services. Should this prove to be impractical, we will cover the reasonable cost of comparable hosting for any portion of that three months that we are unable to provide your hosting.
2. We further guarantee to provide you with at least one year of free web hosting from the day you sign up with Free Nonprofit Web Hosting under the terms of our hosting agreement. If you have already been with us for a year or longer, you are still covered by the guarantee stated in paragraph 1 above.
